Lucia from Syracuse and candels

On 13th of December in Sweden celebrates another Saint: Lucia from Syracuse in Italy. There are many traditions and stories connected to his day. Most important: she arrives early in the morning bringin hope, light and bread in just about every school, home and workplace.

In Sweden we love candels. We light them all year round, but especially in the dark autumn and winter, and of course for Christmas. The four Sundays in advent is celebrated by lighting one more candle in a special candeleholder. You can see it on the table. Every morning traditionally school children light candels on their techer read. We even have songs about lighting candels.
