Anna's day in Sweden
Anna – day used to be an important day in the old times. It was the marking day of when all preparations for Christmas food must have started, otherwise there would not be time enough for everything to be ready. The stockfish was to soak, the beer was put to brew, the breaddoughs prepared, and many other things. Today we have easier ways and most of those things are bought ready-made. But instead the 9th of December has turned into National Day of Ginger Biscuit!
There is no end to what you can use a ginger biscuit dough for. All sorts of shapes and decorations are used, as long as it is all edible. There are lots of shapes to be bought, but you can also cut shapes with a knife.
From Advent and onwards we eat a lot of ginger biscuits. In our school we have special day when we do crafts connected to Christmas for a whole day and one of the things we do then is ginger biscuits of course.
You can use ginger biscuits as decorations in the Christmas tree or in windows. Then the frosting is crucial! Even the royal family makes ginger biscuits!
Ginger biscuit dough can also be used to make small cottages and palaces and camper vans and baskets and cars and space ships and whatever you can come to think about. •Every year there are lots of competions and photos in magazines to inspire you to new creations. •Everything used is edible, so when Christmas is over you can eat the whole thing!
